I’m not sure why it took me 6 whole days after learning about the flooding west of downtown Memphis to venture over to see it for myself.
I didn’t quite know what to expect but I certainly didn’t think the Mighty Mississippi River had reached Riverside Drive.

So let’s do some photo comparisons. Look at the flag poles (to the left of the M Bridge).
You can barely see Mud Island River Park

This is what you *normally* saw.
Flag poles on Mud Island, nice grassy areas and rocky ledges near the water

Here’s another view of pre-flooding (I was on a moving trolley so excuse the blurriness, please)…

This was last Saturday afternoon…

Let’s take a look at the above photo again, but this time I’m pointing out two things…
The building with a light green roof (circled in red) and the exterior light fixtures (circled in orange) still protruding

Before the flooding…
Huge difference, huh? It’d be fair to say the Mighty River is swallowing Mud Island Park

Looking west/towards Arkansas (’twas strange seeing currents moving in opposite directions!)

The currents going south (left arrow) were from the Mississippi River

The flooding making its way north on Riverside Drive; see very next photo too

If you happen to be curious how far up the street water had reached in above photo
(Thanks Google Map!)
I plan on scoring more photos this week. Stay tuned.
