Downtown Austin

Yay, I found ’em…the handful of photos of downtown Austin during my 1st date with Chip over a year ago. We traipsed around downtown after stuffing ourselves silly with lunch and dessert.  (We toured the Texas State Capitol earlier in the day).  Burning calories walking is way more fun when there’s so much to see…and definitely no shortage of that in Austin, nosirree.

While I’m the first to say I love looking at modern-day architecture, I’m just as fascinated by older buildings too. Some of the buildings we spotted were built in the 19th century.

Built in 1874

Sandwiched between The Paramount Theater (opened in 1915) and Stephen F. Austin Intercontinental Hotel (first opened in 1924)

We didn’t know what to think of this, but figured it was gonna be good…
Apparently this is the statue commemorating where Angelina Eberly prevented the removal of government archives (destined for Houston) by firing a cannon

J.W. Hannig Building (built in 1876)

First Baptist Church’s bell

Little did I know I’d be seeing a lot more of the Texas flag after this 1st date :p
