Gluttonous. That’s the perfect word to describe Date #8 since Jeff and I baked Grasshopper Pie and Carrot Raisin Cupcakes AND bought five treats from two different bakeries (both of ’em were closed the last time we tried stopping by). I’m only covering 2 goodies in this post.
We had popped in Ed & Kay’s once before, and I was hoping we’d be lucky to score a slice of their Orange Mandarin Cake. Nope. The apple pie more than made up for it though ’cause it was undeniably the best apple pie my taste buds ever encountered. Jeff enjoyed it too (it was *his* selection), but I’m fairly sure I’ve eaten waaaay more apple pies than him to know this one’s a solid winner.
Winner of “Best Apple Pie” goes to…
….Ed & Kay’s Restaurant in Benton, Arkansas
It’s the flaky crust and combination of spices that make this one helluva divine pie!
I know that was sacrilegious, but I speak the truth!

And now for what Ed & Kay’s are known for: Their Mile-high meringue pies! After an excruciating 5 minutes (mighta even been 7), I decided on their Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie. There are some things in life–like dessert decisions–that require careful deliberation y’know. :p
Don’t let this picture fool ya, that tumbler cup on the right is at least 8″ tall!

After a couple bites of Jeff’s pie, I’m not sure I gave my own a fair shot of giving me the warm fuzzies, I was still stuck distracted by his. Marie Callender’s fresh Apple Pie, great in its own right, ain’t got nothing on this one! And if we didn’t *already* have 3 other desserts in the car, I can’t be sure I could have walked away without another slice of the apple. There, I admitted it. Happy now?
Did I mention the meringue is skyscraper-high?
This is no small engineering feat, folks! :p

Now let’s take a moment to focus on this peanut buttery and chocolaty wonder
It was nutrageously packed with lots of crunchy peanut butter…..yummmm!
Have I tempted you enough? Oh alright, I’ll quit!
Stick around for the 3 desserts we bought from Community Bakery.
