Doughnuts…… or is it “Donuts”? I like keeping things simple, so I’ll stick with the shorter spelling for this post.
It’s funny how you remember stuff about the past. Growing up, Sunday breakfasts were the coolest! My oldest brother used to make eggs the way each of us wanted it: scrambled, over-easy, over-hard, etc. I made pancakes, with the occasional French Toast. =P
When my brother left the nest, Sundays were still cool because at least once a month, my dad would buy a dozen fresh doughnuts just minutes from where we lived. Over the years, I’ve tried Winchell’s, Yum Yum Donuts, Dunkin’ Donuts, Krispy Kreme, and a few mom & pop’s stores. I’ve bought donuts in 4 states (Oh geez, isn’t that pathetic that I know exactly how many!). Yum Yum’s sugar donut is pretty good. I love Dunkin’ Donuts chocolate donut. Krispy Kreme’s original, chocolate glazed, and glazed blueberry are like nothing else. I’m sooo not trying to start a Donut war, nosirreee, not me.
This photo was taken inside a Krispy Kreme store before I devoured it, LOL. (Not a great pic, considering I used my cell phone but I was trying to capture its yumminess factor before it vanished). Imagine my surprise when I realized it didn’t taste the same as I remembered it from a couple of years ago. Right when I got home, I did some Googling, and the recipe was in fact changed at the beginning of this year. Wahhhhhhhh! It’s just not the same without all the trans fats!!! I wish they had kept the original recipe or at least give customers like me the choice between all the trans fats or not…you know kinda like caffeinated or decaf, regular or sugar free. Is that really too much to ask?! Krispy Kreme may have lost me as a customer. 🙁
P.S. I was planning on buying a gift card but the employee who rang up my donuts (I bought two, okay?! Sheesh.) said the cards were glitchy. And considering I was going to use the gift card as a giveaway on this site/blog, it would NOT have been a good idea to risk it.
