Within minutes of landing at Honolulu International Airport last month, it hits me how different Hawaii is. For one, the climate: warm air with a moist, wet breeze. The second thing is seeing their cultural influences. Take, for example…
Flight Information monitor in a wooden frame Doubt I’ll see something similar in another airport
Hawaiian Airline planes The tail logo is of Pualani (she’s the “Flower of the Sky”)
Women’s bathroom signage
Hawaiian leis and bead necklaces near baggage claim
I had been warned about the hideous traffic in Honolulu, so you can imagine my surprise of arriving at the hotel in Waikiki in no time at all.
We stayed here. Our room was small but comfortable. We were going to be spending most of our time exploring the island, and the room perfectly met our needs of sleeping and showering.
Courtyard by Marriott Waikiki Beach
It was still daylight, and 16 hours of traveling was not going to stop me from a wee bit of sightseeing in the land of paradise. :p
Standing in front of the hotel entrance looking southeast on Kuhio Avenue
These ABC (Convenience) Stores are everywhere in Honolulu
Nice bus stop awning
Ukulele shop at the hotel
Near the back entrance of the hotel (just to the left of the Courtyard sign); valet stand is on the right I’ve switched places in the next photo…
…Super close to the back entrance now I love the bench and palm trees
Pool Strangely enough, there was no one around during this photo….but it’s usually packed, especially during the day
I hope you’re ready for Hawaii overload. You’ve been officially warned. I have lots and lots of pics to share.
