On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in front of his room (#306) amongst witnesses at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.  The evening before, he had delivered his “I’ve been to the Mountaintop” speech at the Church of God in Christ.
