My family loves my upside-down pumpkin cake so, naturally, I will be making that. We look forward to an extended family gathering at my sister’s house by the sea. With two big families (ours and my brother-in-laws) we all squeeze in and contribute to the meal including the largest turkey that can fit in the oven,(sometime two), three-generation recipe stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet pototoes, green beans, onions and of course cranberry sauce. Ending with a variety of homemade (must be homemade!) pies.

This will be my first experience cooking my own Thanksgiving meal and it will be a feast. A butternut squash soup, turkey, cranberry sauce, rolls, bacon and cheddar mashed potatoes, a twist on a green bean casserole, sourdough stuffing, cranberry apple sausage stuffing, and some type of pumpkin flavored dessert. 1. Just thinking about this Thanksgiving makes my mouth water and my tummy grumble. We’ll be at my parents house for Thanksgiving. We always have turkey, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, candied sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, fruit salad, sweet tea, pumpkin pie with cool whip, at least one other kind of pie (dutch apple and/or pecan), and usually at least one other dessert (cheesecake, brownies, cookies, etc.). Since my husband is picky with what veggies he eats, my mom will most likely also be serving mashed potatoes with cream gravy and buttery broccoli florets as well.
Only thing different this year is that I’m newly expecting, so though my tongue salivates at the thought of all the yummy holiday food…I’m hoping I actually get to enjoy it!! It’ll be worth it all next year when baby gets here…but I’m hoping baby lets me eat this year!!

Although I am going to my inlaws this year I know that I can count on having her wonderful turkey! She slow roasts it for so long that the meat just falls off the bone. It’s so juicy! I’m flying out to my parents’ place in Seattle. My mom will be making 2 turkeys (one cooked traditionally, the other brined.) My brother, a chef, will be making turkey roulades rolled with stuffing and a cranberry gelee. My other brother will be making breads from scratch.

Well we are eating out at a local restaurant that has very good food and although they will have the traditional turkey dinners they make a great cedar planked salmon with maple glaze that I love so I will probably have that. Just to keep it Thanksgiving I will have their pumpkin mousse pie for dessert!

We will be having 4 Thanksgivings. One with my dad’s family; turkey and dressing and green beans, crescent rolls, cheesecake. One with my mother’s family: turkey and homemade dressing, corn, dinner rolls, mashed potatoes, pecan pie bars, chocolate mouse pie, lemon pie. ONe with my husband’s mother’s family; ham, green beans, rolls, and apple pie. one with my husband’s dad’s family; ham; mixed veggies, rolls, apple and chery pie. i think i deserve a gift card for having to put up with so much family for so many days!!!

My roommate and I can’t tear ourselves away from our schoolwork long enough to get home for the holidays, so we’re going to have to wing it for Thanksgiving. We have a couple of organic turkey breasts coming in, with orchard fresh apples to make stuffing. We’re also planning mashed sweet potatoes, green bean casserole (you really can’t have Thanksgiving without it), and I even stole my mom’s famous bread recipe. We’ve got mulled mead to drink. For dessert, we’re staying pretty traditional with a homemade pumpkin pie. We picked out the pumpkin yesterday! I’m so excited.

Something special that we always have on thanksgiving is pork pie. It’s a French-Canadian holiday staple from my family. It’s ground pork, potatoes, salt, pepper and bell’s seasoning in a pie crust. DELICIOUS and comforting!

I like to cook a lot at Thanksgiving. This year we’re going to have a turkey basted with herbs, butter and draped with bacon and stuffed inside with citrus and more herbs. It comes out delicious and juicy. I have an old family recipe for a wonderful lime whipped salad on the side along with green bean casserole. I fix a special cornbread stuffing with bacon. Then I vary the desserts and other sides every year. This year I think I’m going to make an orange cake for dessert and am thinking roasted asparagus as the other side.

We are not your traditional turkey type family. I will buy a rib roast (usually on sale at this time of year) and fix a rib roast, mashed potatoes, a salad, either broccoli or cauliflower and for the holiday season I make a wonderful cranberry relish. I have never in my 38 years spent a Christmas or Thanksgiving away from my parents home and honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way. Holidays are for families.

It will be the tradition dinner, Turkey, mom’s homemade sage stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cranberries, olives, veggie tray, homemade rolls (oh yum!) and of course homemade pumpkin pie with REAL whipped cream to top off your achey stomach….then it is clean up and NAP time because you know you have to get in some good sleep before you get up in the middle of the night so you can freeze your butt off standing in line for Black Friday at some store that is going to give 10 ‘whatevers’ out…but really I love it, I have met some of the biggest yabbers out there!

Every year since I can remember Thanksgiving is always at my parents home. My mother does the main dish and all of us kids bring the rest. We always have the traditional American Thanksgiving Feast which is a huge Turkey that my mother will bake and my father will carve. My mother also makes her chestnut and raisin stuffing which is out of this world! My husband and I will descend upon their house with our 3 young children and we are bringing this year the butternut squash, mashed potatoes, and rolls. My sister and her husband come with their 4 children and they are bringing the deserts which are pies that they bake themselves. My sisters husband went to a culinary school at one time in his life so he is quite the little top chef in their home. All in all, we eat way too much, but it is my favorite meal of the year that I look forward to each Thanksgiving!
